SWITCH-Asia at the 18th Session of the UN Commission on Sustainable Development, 12 May 2010, New York

A side event at the 18th Session of the UN Commission on Sustainable Development highlighted the approach of the European Union funded SWITCH-Asia programme that goes beyond demonstration and focuses on scaling-up of best practices of sustainable consumption and production (SCP). It showcased the contribution of the SWITCH-Asia projects towards poverty alleviation and resource conservation.
During the event, a panel discussion accompanied by projection of three different thematic movies on SWITCH-Asia projects and programme activities took place.

On behalf of our project Mr. Luis Neves, Head of Corporate Responsibility at Deutsche Telekom participated in the panel discussion. Mr. Neves highlighted the importance of working closely with suppliers to ensure high social and environmental standards throughout the entire value chain and also stressed the need for further educating consumers in the area of sustainable consumption. These principles were perfectly summarized in Mr. Neves’ concluding statement: “We need to change consumers to sell sustainable products.”
