In the course of the Pilot SME Assessment Programme, the project team paid a visit to the headquarters and manufacturing site of Shandong Tsinghua Tongfang Luying Electronic Co., Ltd. on 9th June 2011 to evaluate the company’s current situation on Eco-efficiency, OHS and CSR. Luying is specialized in manufacturing a variety of ceramic capacitors and multilayer chip inductors. Being one of the 12 pilot SMEs, it has already accompanied the SWITCH Project since its beginning and participated in the Pilot Training Workshop in Qingdao as well as an on-site baseline assessment in April 2010.
Prior to the assessment, Luying's Head of the Corporate Management Department, Mr. Su Qiang welcomed the project team. Senior Project Manager Bernhard Felizeter presented the project achievements as well as the purpose of the assessment and its benefits for the company.
Opening the assessment, Ms. Liu Guoyan from project partner Chinese Institute of Electronics and Prof. Jin Min from Renmin University introduced the Conformity Model which serves as a base document for the assessment. Ms. Zhu Chunyan from the China Standard Certification Center presented the project's assessment methodology. Following a general company overview by Mr. Su Qiang the project team received a presentation on Luying's environmental, OHS and CSR management. The assessment team then visited the production facilities of the company.
Following the on-site visit the project held an in-depth interactive discussion about Eco-efficiency, OHS and CSR aspects in the company between its experts and the leadership of Luying. Together with the project experts, representatives from the corporate management, quality, engineering, marketing and HR departments reviewed the company’s environmental performance and social standards. The project experts helped identify key areas of potential improvement concerning the company’s product life-cycle and hazardous substances management and provided customized suggestions. Meanwhile, company representatives and the project’s management team discussed Luying's further involvement in future project activities in Shandong province.
The meetings, on-site visit and assessment, gave the project team a clear view of the company's progress on Eco-efficiency, OHS and CSR aspects since last year's baseline assessment. At the same time, the Conformity Model was introduced as a self-assessment tool for Luying.
