Pilot SME Assessment at Ori-Color Group, 10 June 2011, Qingdao, Shandong Province
After the Pilot SME Assessments held respectively in Shanghai, Foshan, Zhaoqing and Linyi another Pilot SME Assessment took place on 10th June 2011 at the production base of the Qingdao Ori-Color Group. The main purpose of this visit was to assess the company's current situation on Eco-efficiency, OHS and CSR. A supplier for Hisense, Ori-Color produces a variety of products for electronic goods. The pilot SME has already accompanied the SWITCH Project since its beginning and also participated in the Pilot Training Workshop in Qingdao in April 2010.
Prior to the assessment, the Head of Technology and Quality of the Ori-Color Group, Mr. Li Bo, welcomed the project team and provided a general company overview and a presentation on the company's Eco-efficiency, OHS and CSR practices. Senior Project Manager Bernhard Felizeter then introduced the project achievements as well as the purpose of the assessment and its benefits for the company.
Opening the assessment, Prof. Jin Min from Renmin University presented the Conformity Model which serves as a base document for the assessment. Ms. Zhu Chunyan from the China Standard Certification Center introduced the project's assessment methodology. The assessment team then paid a visit to the production facilities of the company.
Following the on-site visit the project held an in-depth interactive discussion about Eco-efficiency, OHS and CSR aspects in the company between its experts and the representatives from Ori-Color. Together with the project experts, representatives from the technology and quality departments reviewed the company's environmental and safety performance. The project experts helped identify key areas of potential improvement for instance concerning reuse, recovery and recycling measures and offered customized suggestions. In addition, company representatives and the project's management team discussed the further involvement of Ori-Color in future project activities.
The meetings, on-site visit and assessment, gave the project team a clear view of the company's progress on Eco-efficiency, OHS and CSR aspects. At the same time, the Conformity Model was introduced as a self-assessment tool for Ori-Color to measure its environmental and safety performance.
